New York City’s Vietnamese coffee scene continues to grow, with a wave of new cafes opening in recent years. This trend has been fueled by local Vietnamese coffee roasters like Nguyen Coffee Supply, which gained attention after opening a pop-up cafe.
Among the latest additions is FifthSip, opening May 17 in Nolita at 229 Mott Street. The new spot will serve drinks made with beans sourced from Vietnam. Menu highlights include traditional Vietnamese options such as egg coffee, coffee with condensed milk, and creative twists like coffee topped with sea salt foam or flavored with pandan.
FifthSip joins a growing list of Vietnamese-inspired cafes across the city, including Larry’s Ca Phe in East Williamsburg and Lê Phin in the East Village. Later this year, another cafe called Kinhfolk will debut in Williamsburg at 710 Metropolitan Avenue. Kinhfolk will source its beans from Càphê Roasters, a Philadelphia-based roaster known as the city’s first and only Vietnamese coffee producer. This marks Càphê Roasters’ first wholesale partnership in New York.
Meanwhile, beloved bagel shop Utopia Bagels is expanding again, this time opening a third location in Long Island City at 26-11 Jackson Avenue, near 44th Drive. The new store opens on Sunday, May 18, and will offer the same popular bagels, sandwiches, and salads that fans love. This location will feature more indoor seating than the others and even include an arcade game, according to a press release.
Utopia Bagels has deep roots in Queens, having first opened in Whitestone in 1981. After expanding to Manhattan in 2024, co-owner Jesse Spellman says the team wanted to return to Queens for their next move “because that’s where our roots are.”
